Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 24 May 2016

So we're getting into our stride now for MedComms Day 2016. Make a note of the date - Wednesday 8 June 2016. Wherever you are in the world that day send us a message and ideally at least an accompanying "selfie". Tell us what you are up to and encourage your colleagues to do the same from wherever in the world they are. And so on. Email me stories, pictures, videos and so on for the Blog website and update us directly throughout the day on Twitter using hashtag #medcomms. I'm not sure how it'll go but I've now also started posting to Instagram using hashtag #medcomms and more interestingly, perhaps, I've started a Thunderclap where I'm aiming for 100 supporters to enable us to launch a message across the community at 12.00 BST on 8 June. That's just 100 of you needed... Can we do it? Come on MedComms! Let's hear the thunder.

Next week, meanwhile, we have our second Brunch meeting here in Oxford. Come and talk to Jo Whelan about the activities of EMWA, the European Medical Writers Association, and importantly about the EMWA guidelines and position statement on the role of medical writers in peer-reviewed publications. Talk to Julie Charlesworth about what happened at the recent 4th EMWA Symposium; Scientific and Medical Communication Today (Julie is also running EMWA's Freelance Forum for medical writers now, so can chat with you about what they're planning following their meeting earlier this month in Munich). Talk to Helen Chambers, Publication Manager at Costello Medical Consulting about the Good Publication Practice guidelines (GPP3) regarding redundant publications, and whether sufficient information is available regarding congress attendees to ensure that resubmitted abstracts reach new and varied audiences.

The main point of the Brunch meetings is to generate webcasts that will then be made freely accessible to all MedComms folks everywhere, but nothing beats being there and chatting with the speakers in person. Do join us if you can. Lunch is on me!

If you've not seen them yet, check out the videos from this month's Brunch meeting, which are all packed full with good relevant content. Watch them alone at any time that's convenient to you, or better still arrange a team meeting, stream a video, then discuss.

Please feel free to spread the word and share them individually any which way...

  • Professional medical writing support and the quality of randomised controlled trial reporting featuring Paul Farrow from Oxford PharmaGenesis
  • ISMPP - what does it offer MedComms specialists? featuring Jackie Marchington from Caudex
  • Myth Busters: Separating Fact from Fiction in our Profession featuring Jackie Marchington from Caudex
  • ISMPP Annual Meeting 2016: Conference Summary featuring Richard White from Oxford PharmaGenesis

Or you can subscribe to the MedComms YouTube channel directly if that suits you best.

It's early days but I'm now committed to building a library of such videos at - enjoy! And please let me know if you have suggestions for speakers and topics.

    Have a good week everyone.
