Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 21 November 2017

Apparently everyone in MedComms is busier than ever! At least, that's what 'everyone' tells me. Maybe they just don't want to talk to me, again. Who knows. But it does seem genuinely busy at the moment. Certainly there's lots of activity at the moment around recruitment generally (it's notable we're seeing record numbers of Job Ads at and there are several companies launching more formalised recruitment and training schemes for entry level staff. So, the resources we provide at are really coming in to their own and we've ambitious plans for next year with continued support from the Sponsors of that service. On that note, a huge shout out, please, to AMICULUM Ltd, Ashfield Healthcare Communications, Aspire Scientific, Highfield:Communication, Lucid Group and Oxford PharmaGenesis. If you, too, can help support us please give me a shout.

Most importantly - and urgently - after much discussion over the years I've finally had my arm twisted and we will publish a new Guide to Careers in Account Management in MedComms - in January. So we're moving quickly on this one. Lindsey Heer, who's recently started freelancing, will author the guide with us. Indeed, she's more or less written it already. So now we need to pin down various other elements. We'll follow the style and format of the existing annual publication for wannabe writers, From Academic to Medical Writer; a guide to getting started in medical communications. So we'd like some quotes, please, from some account management folks, starting "I work in MedComms..." and continuing how they like. Please help spread the word. For reference, here are the quotes we collected from writers this year.

And, of course, I'm keen to hear from anyone who'd like to place a display advert in the directory of employers.

If you move quickly and book an advert in both careers guides now, we'll offer a useful discount overall. The crucial point is we need advertisers who can move quickly and send us the new material before we break for Christmas.

Following that, we'll go on to publish the Writers' Guide again, as usual, in March 2018. Somewhat unbelievably, that's our tenth annual issue! (Whooosh... that was the sound of my life passing me by!)

Meanwhile, a group of us are meeting next Tuesday, for our first MedComms Networking event in Cambridge. We've another of our small Lunch and Learn events, supported by Concise. This one will look at measuring success with event tech analytics. We've space for more so please join us if you can, and help spread the word to all relevant others. Importantly I'm trying to find out if there's an appetite for more activities in and around Cambridge next year, so even if you can't join us on the day, please ping me your thoughts and ideas and any feedback from other colleagues.

Have a good week, everyone. There really is lots happening - but it could still be so much more. Do join in, one way or another.
