Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 21 April 2020

I hope you're well and coping with these crazy times!

As far as MedComms recruitment is concerned, it seems a very mixed picture out there. Some companies have simply stopped all recruitment. Others seem very active. There are no magic answers, but I'll continue to do what we can to help from here. For wannabes and others. We've still plenty of jobs being advertised on

A few days ago, we announced that our next annual Meet the agencies day would be a 2 hour session online on 18 May, and open to everyone. More than 100 individuals have signed up already. It's great to see the interest in joining MedComms. Anyone can sign up here.

We've now also moved our next workshop for aspiring medical writers online. We've been running it three times a year as a one-day workshop in London, led by John Dixon, specialist trainer in scientific writing and presentation skills. The programme is primarily designed to help prospective medical writers tackle an agency writing test. We'll now run the next one, split across two half-days, on the mornings of 1 and 2 June (we've previously successfully trialled the workshop online. But a whole day is too much, hence two mornings). Again, please help spread the word.

Next month we'll start another series of 10 free weekly #MedComms webinars on Wednesdays at 12.00 UK time. They should all be of interest to everyone, but several are specifically intended for entry-level job-seekers. So, for instance, on 13 May we'll be joined by representatives from Parexel who'll talk about their company, what MedComms means for them and the different roles within their teams. On 27 May we'll talk about MedComms account management in practice with Ben Church, Alice Fantom and Charlotte Lupton who are all profiled in the latest issue of our FirstMedComms careers guide, The business of medical communications: a guide to getting started in account management, published in January 2020.

And so on. Remember, you'll find recordings of previous webinars and much more are freely accessible at

We'll kick off the new series on 6 May, talking about Managing others for the first time in MedComms with Jenny Plant and Matt Plant. Please join us.

Meanwhile here are some other relevant (online) places to go to keep yourselves busy as needed...

This coming Thursday there's another in the Stgilesmedical/EuHIC MedComms educational series of meetings, History of epidemics – lessons for COVID-19

Next week, ISMPP will host a special 90-minute ISMPP U Webinar that's open to all, not just members, "Coronavirus (COVID-19): Its Impact on Publication Planning," on Wednesday, April 29.

And a recent video about Diversity in Healthcare Advertising from Faisal Ahmed and colleagues is interesting and thought-provoking. Some of your companies might like to consider supporting the Diversity Pledge.

These are strange times indeed. Stay well, everyone.

Remember, details of all our activities are kept bang up-to-date at or give me a shout at any time if you've any questions, comments or suggestions.
