Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 17 September 2019

Oops. Two of our Sponsors became one last week when Lucid Group bought Healthcare21 Communications! Good luck to all involved but it's a reminder that we're dependent on the support of just a small group of Sponsors. Without them, none of this MedComms Networking activity could happen. If you'd like to join them please let me know. Meanwhile please, Sponsors, no more mergers for a while!

Last week's MedComms careers event in Manchester was great fun again. Thanks to the many who participated. The slide presentations are now freely available online, as always.

The simple fact is many MedComms agencies need more people, so anything we can do between us to spread the word about career opportunities the better. Hopefully our service plays its part but we need everyone to join in. If nothing else this week, please like/share my LinkedIn update highlighting the 2019 issues of the four careers guides. It'll only take a moment, but might change someone's life.

Recently I highlighted a comment on LinkedIn from Rebecca Dawson about the challenge of finding an entry-level job in MedComms. It was great to hear at the weekend she now has a job, and to hear about the amount of positive support she received from contacts within the MedComms community on LinkedIn.

It's in all our interests to champion our business and help encourage the wannabes. Please join in.

Meanwhile our Autumn series of MedComms webinars is nearly complete. Every Wednesday, 12.00 UK time, from 2 October through to 4 December. Free of charge. Everyone welcome. We've now added Social Media: A Useful Tool or a Distraction in Medical Publications? on 9 October, featuring Lynda Chang, Beatrice Vetter-Ceriotti and Tamalette Loh of Complete HealthVizion. On 16 October we've Adapting your writing for patients and the public with Hannah Bridges. And on 23 October we'll have another opportunity to chat about life as a MedComms freelancer with Emma Georgiou, Jane Mason and Sarah Smith

Our first Webinar, though, will be with Ffyona Dawber (CEO and Founder at Synergy Vision) talking about The 4 day MedComms working week in practice. Since we first announced the webinar, Synergy Vision have now confirmed they are to formalize its 4-day working week (4DW), after a 6-month pilot and a tracking survey showed staff to be happier, less anxious and more productive. Importantly, clients have also been very positive about the 4DW, reporting no adverse impact. Join us on 2 October to find out more.

Finally many of you in the UK might be interested in a free webinar from IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed in the UK, on 18 September about upcoming tax changes affecting freelancers and those who commission them, Post-April 2020: IR35 in the Private Sector.

And this week is the annual Peer Review Week! Enjoy.
