    MedComms Networking - 15 November 2016

My thanks to Oxford PharmaGenesis for the invitation to attend the launch of their new Cardiff office last week, which was great fun. My Google map of UK offices of MedComms agencies is slowly but surely getting busier and gaps are being filled. The original cluster areas of MedComms activity in and around Oxfordshire, Macclesfield and the North West and, of course, London, remain strong. Indeed, this year we're seen a lot of renewed activity around Macclesfield and the North West. But over the past few years we've seen offices opening in Scotland and communities growing strongly in Sussex, Kent and Cambridgeshire, for example. Please let me know about any errors and omissions, though. I'm sure I'm still missing some of you. I've only just added Makara Health Communications in Southampton and, as you may have seen, Watermeadow which is part of the Ashfield Healthcare Communications Group, is rapidly building their team based at their central Headquarters office in Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. Let me know if I'm missing you.

Meanwhile, this month's MedComms Networking Brunch Meeting worked really well again and the webcasts of all three presentations are now freely available for you to view and share as you like. All three would serve well as the basis for in-house lunch and learn events if you stream the video and use as a basis for team discussions. Contact details are always provided for Speakers as well, so you can easily follow up as needed.

Clare Shepherd, Senior Editor at Adis, provides an overview of how digital technology and enhanced features are adding value to medical publications.

Caroline Halford, Publishing Manager at Adis, reviews the evolution of patient-centered outcomes research and the direct involvement of patients in publications.

Jan Seal-Roberts, Publishing Director at Adis, talks about the rapid growth of "predatory" publishers and the dangers they pose for the STM publishing community.

You'll find a growing library of these useful webcasts for MedComms at enjoy! Please help spread the word. They're freely accessible anytime, by everyone, from everywhere.

We're building an interesting audience now for our next afternoon workshop in Macclesfield on 8 December; Publishing, medical writing and authorship: Is more transparency needed? It'll round off a hectic programme of MedComms Networking activities in 2016, and start to draw to a close 10 years' of MedComms Networking activity (10 years?!). The folks at Prime Global wanted to initiate an important follow up discussion about authorship and transparency of medical writing support. Dove Press have agreed to co-sponsor and John Gonzalez will chair the panel discussion, with specialists Beverley Greenway, Sandra Le, Jackie Marchington and Valerie Moss. So please join us for another valuable meeting and a great opportunity to raise a glass or two in celebration of what we've all achieved this year, and to look forward to more in 2017.

Enjoy your week everyone and don't forget, we'll celebrate the full 10 years of MedComms Networking activity on 25 January 2017 in Oxford. Please join us.
