Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 11 October 2016

We had great fun in Berlin on Friday with an eclectic audience from across MedComms and related areas; from pharma and agency representatives, to freelancers to academics to patient advocates and more. Attendees came from near and far. We're collecting feedback but there was clearly an appetite for follow-up meetings so we're now discussing how, where and when that can happen. Kudos to Steven Walker and his team from St GilesMedical for taking the initiative and kicking it all off.

Meanwhile our Brunch Club meeting last week also went well. We'll release the webcasts at as fast as they're each finished and approved. The first to go live today is this one:

  • Been there, done it, got the tee-shirt. Life in MedComms - featuring Rick Flemming of Aspire Scientific

  • Plans are coming together quickly now for the next Brunch Club meeting on 2 November, when we'll talk publications again. We'll have the details finalised shortly but feel free to sign up as soon as you like. All these Brunch Clubs have worked well so far and provided a useful opportunity to meet and chat as well as to hear from specialists on the day. Oh and lunch is on me!

Perhaps more interesting to many of you, we're now planning two rather larger events.

My thanks goes to The Prime Medical Group for supporting what will be our last event of the year, in Macclesfield. We'll have an afternoon's workshop on 8 December back at the Tytherington Club. The programme is still being worked on, so more news very soon, but you know you'll have a great afternoon so feel free to sign up now and please help spread the word.

Even bigger - 25 January 2017 will mark 10 years to the day after our first MedComms Networking event in Oxford. I've booked The Jam Factory Restaurant and Bar in Oxford. Can we fill it? I hope so or I'll look pretty daft. Let's reflect on how far we've come and celebrate in style! Join us for an evening of social networking, food and drink and maybe some surprise guest speakers along the way. If you can't be there on the day join in on Twitter using hashtag #medcomms. If you can join us, sign up now and get the show started by simply emailing me directly in the usual way. More details will be added as the plan comes together. All ideas welcomed! The Jam Factory is directly opposite the central train station or a 5 minute walk from the bus station and car parking so it's easily accessible for all.

Don't forget this week we've freelancers organising informal gatherings in Oxford, Leeds, London and Cambridge. Details are always listed at

Finally, what's an Ashfield Healthcare Communications Assessment Day like for #MedComms wannabes? We've just published an Insider's View by Emily Fisher (Associate Medical Writer). By the way, their next Assessment Day is 21 October. More contributions to always welcome!
