Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 10 July 2018

We've four more great webcasts for you this week, following last week's Brunch Club meeting in Oxford. All freely available, as always. It's a somewhat eclectic mixture this month, but every one of them is worth watching.

Extreme freelancing: writing whilst sailing around the world - Sarah Smith is a freelance medical writer who lives on a yacht with her family and continues to work while sailing around the world. It's challenging - but entirely possible (19:20 mins).

The Healthcare Communications Workforce Insight Survey 2018 - Daniel Clifton, Founder and Managing Director, Paramount Recruitment, reviews key findings from the new Healthcare Communications Workforce Insight Survey, run in May 2018 (15:11 mins).

The life and times of the Global Alliance of Publication Professionals (GAPP) - Jackie Marchington, Director of Global Operations, Caudex, and former member of GAPP, reflects on six years of responding to misleading articles about medical publications professionals (15:20 mins).

Industry Update: Zinc to Vault PromoMats - Stacy Hardie, Associate Director, Content Partners, Veeva Europe, outlines Veeva's timeline for migrating clients from Zinc to Vault PromoMats, along with key elements of the upgrade and support for users (13:01 mins).

Any and all comments/suggestions/thoughts about what I am doing with and also any ideas for more content would be welcome. I know of a number of companies now that are increasingly using the videos to support their internal training programme. And there's clearly a wider role for promoting MedComms and the specific services, solutions, research and interests of the community. I've a long way to go but there is clearly potential here to develop a really quite significant and enduring resource. I just need to keep building it to gather the momentum. With more than 100 videos now in place, I'm going to enter 'phase 3' of my development plan, so we'll now stop the monthly routine brunch club meetings, and I'll be aiming to work much more individually with agencies and other companies that can help me develop content to add to the resource, and see if we can ramp things up significantly. Watch this space.

Meanwhile, this week we're running another of our new workshops for wannabes; Writing skills for medical writers: what MedComms agencies expect. Led by John Dixon, hosted by Media Contacts in London, and supported by the Sponsors of we're fully booked again, so good luck to our class of July 2018. We're going to develop this workshop format further in the Autumn. Watch this space.

By the way, we now have printed copies of our latest careers guide, Evidence generation and communication: a guide to getting started in HEOR/market access medical writing. If you'd like some, just give me a shout. Copies are free of charge so long as stocks last. Or download any of the guides at

Finally, please help spread the word amongst all relevant others about our next Open Careers Event in Manchester on 13 September. We've plenty of space for more wannabes. Many thanks.

    Enjoy your week.
