Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 08 May 2018

Thanks to everyone involved in last week's Brunch Club event. That's four more great talks, and the first webcast is already freely accessible...

In Pitching to win, Adrian Brown, a training consultant in healthcare communications, argues that pitching is about winning - and outlines what he believes to be the essential ingredients for success (view now, 10.03 minutes).

We'll post the other webcasts, all of which focus on CME and medical education in Europe, ASAP.

And the programme for our next Brunch Club meeting, on 13 June, was confirmed today. We'll hear from Taylor and Francis Group specialists about copyright and permissions, open access, the submission process from the publisher's point of view, and an update about preprints and peer review following last week's 14th Annual Meeting of ISMPP. As always, lunch is on me! Of course, the point of filming is to make the talks accessible for you all, at any time, but there's always value in chatting directly with the speakers if you can join us. Everyone welcome.

Important news for those of you working in publications; it was announced at last week's 14th Annual Meeting of ISMPP that The Global Alliance of Publication Professionals (GAPP) has "retired". GAPP was set up in 2012 as a rapid response mechanism to counter misinformed or outdated articles about professional medical writing, publication planning and pharmaceutical industry sponsored publications. In my opinion, all members who served deserve a round of applause. I hope they're right and the professional groups will now work together to respond as needed in a timely manner. We need more such voices out there, championing the positive aspects of our work.

Meanwhile and importantly, please spare 10 minutes to join in with a potentially very valuable exercise for everyone across MedComms. Paramount Recruitment has instigated a Salary and Workforce Insight survey, which I'm happily supporting, to create a unique, valuable insight into the salaries, benefits, views and challenges within the Healthcare Communications Sector. Through everyone's contributions, we'll all see a detailed salary analysis across the industry, gaining valuable insights into various roles, levels of experience and specialisms. Importantly and uniquely, the report will be freely available afterwards. Individual responses are completely confidential. The survey is managed by an independent market research company. No personal or individual data will be identifiable nor shared with any party.

[PLEASE COMPLETE THE SURVEY HERE - closing date is 25 May]

Have a great week. Hopefully you're busy making plans for #MedComms Day on 6 June! Corinne Swainger has confirmed she's organising an informal dinnertime get-together for the freelancers and remote workers around North West London, so we'll look forward to photos from them. Has anyone else any plans yet? Now, before you forget, please do support that Thunderclap!

PS - I can't make it but this one should be good; Putting Patients First is a one-day, multidisciplinary, not-for-profit conference with a difference in Berlin on 18 May. Check the details here.
