Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 07 February 2017

It's suddenly looking like a very busy March indeed! Particularly in Macclesfield. So, listen up everyone.

If you like discussing the use of technology at events then we've started confirming the kick-off dates for a series of Lunch and Learn events that are being supported by Concise. The first UK dates have now been confirmed as 2 March in Oxford and 21 March in Macclesfield but all being well we'll have a couple of dates in the USA in between. Hopefully this kicks off an ongoing programme of activities. Watch this space - details are always bang up-to-date at or just contact me directly, anytime.

I'm also finalising details of a potentially really interesting round-table event on 15 March for those with more of an editorial head and interested in copyrights, permissions and licenses. Representatives of the US-based Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) are in London and keen to meet with Editoral Managers from the MedComms agencies. Again, give me a shout or watch this space and I'll post details ASAP.

At the same time, somehow we've a fifth Sponsors' meeting on 20 March, and importantly our next Freelancers' workshop on 22 March. In the case of the Freelancers' meeting, it's currently restricted to subscribers to our MedComms Workbook service but I'm considering opening it up to anyone with an interest in becoming a freelancer and wanting to understand what's involved. I'm not quite sure how that'll work yet but if you're in that position and might be interested drop me a line. It's been suggested a few times via the MedComms Barometer that's currently running, but of course the survey responses are anonymous! So give me a shout directly, please.

Oh, and if you've just started in MedComms check out our second Landscape Training event on 7 March.

Looking ahead, we're talking about at least a couple more meetings in London before the Summer and, of course, the Brunch meetings are every month in Oxford.

Last week's Brunch meeting was excellent. My thanks to all involved from Ashfield Healthcare Communications who helped put the programme together. And in double quick time we've prepared and approved and posted the webcasts which are now freely available to everyone, wherever in the world you are. All the Webcasts in the growing collection at are there to watch in your own time, or use as the basis for your own events or to share as you want. There's lots of great content already and every month we're adding more. Last week's are as follows:

  • Engaging employees in healthcare communications featuring Patrick Hoggard, VP Medical and Scientific Services
  • The future of personalisation in healthcare communications featuring Piers French, Senior Strategist
  • Putting patients at the centre of our business featuring Jo Fearnhead-Wymbs, Patient Engagement Director

  • As an aside, Ashfield also launched a potentially interesting new initiative last week. See what you think. Their Ask Career Experts (ACE) service is an extension of an internal careers support service.

Enjoy your week, everyone. Keep busy.
