Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 05 January 2016

Happy New Year! I'm something of a grumpy old chap at Christmas time but New Years generally inspire me. There's so much opportunity to look forward to - before getting to the year's end again and thinking "erm, where did that one go...?"

So, I'm starting the year with an online survey - the MedComms Barometer for 2016. We'll repeat it every January and see if a picture emerges of trends amongst this global specialist community. My thanks to those who commented on the draft yesterday but I'll take full responsibility now for any errors or typos (let me know if you spot any!). If you think of different and better questions let me know for next year. I'm told a couple of the questions are a tad "edgy", but overall it's most important to remember these surveys are always going to be a tad limited and unsatisfactory and need to be interpreted with care. They aren't any sort of rigorous research but hopefully they still glean useful insights and provoke some feedback and maybe some discussions around water coolers of one sort or another. Participation is on an entirely anonymous basis and the results will then be made freely available to all afterwards.

I'm also using it to try to identify interesting topics for the upcoming year's activities. On that note I've also started a discussion in the MedComms Networking Linkedin group asking for suggestions. I'm always keen to hear your thoughts for topics and speakers and activities, however you want to share them. Please don't be coy. Details of what's happening are, of course, always kept bang up-to-date at My aim this year is to encourage more of you to pick up the balls and run with them yourselves. Hence I'm hoping you'll see more like The Evolving Role Of Medical Affairs And How Medical Communications Can Support on 26 February led by AXON, and Research with Results: tracking engagement for medcomms and pharma on 19 April organised by Altmetric following our Lunch and Learn in December.

Meanwhile, this week has seen a continued stream of wannabe MedComms specialists signing up for our Careers event next week pushing us towards 100 delegates. We've still space for more so please spread the word. Also note, directory entries in the upcoming annual MedComms careers guide are going fast now. More than half the space has already gone. Let me know if you want your agency to appear in the new issue. The current issue is here for reference. I need all new materials in by 29 February latest.

Have a great week everyone and best wishes to all of us for a successful 2016. Please keep me informed about your news along the way. At the turn of the year I saw Envision Pharma Group announced new offices in Wilmslow and that WPP's Sudler and Hennessey acquired a majority stake in System Analytic. What's happening this week? Let me know.
