Many thanks to all the Sponsors of MedComms Networking

Every Tuesday we send out the MedComms Networking email newsletter to subscribers. It includes brief commentary on what we're doing and planning, and highlights relevant news to encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas and to stimulate discussion. The text and links included below, by definition, were accurate on the day of publication, but may then become outdated.

    MedComms Networking - 01 March 2016

First a big shout out, please, for the newest Sponsors of MedComms Networking. I'm delighted to welcome Bioscript and Insight Medical Writing to our elite group of leading companies. None of all this could happen without them. So, many thanks guys.

Meanwhile, what a great meeting that was last Friday. The Evolving Role Of Medical Affairs And How Medical Communications Can Support was hosted by AXON in their London offices and my thanks go to everyone involved. The slides are now freely available and a summary report will be posted shortly. A packed room enjoyed an excellent afternoon's workshop. We put together a small panel of Medical Affairs Advisors and a Medical Director from global pharmaceutical companies to talk about their roles, the evolving landscape they work within and specifically how they want to work with MedComms agencies. We talked about data transparency, compliance and Sunshine issues, engagement with different audiences and stakeholders, and heard about how medical affairs personnel interact with other functional roles within their companies. A few take-home messages; the increasing role that medical affairs plays in directly managing medical communications activities of all sorts, the absolute priority they give to accuracy and understanding of scientific content and a genuine desire for agencies to work with them in real partnerships (as unoriginal as that sounds!).

Last week also provided the opportunity to try out the new Meetoo App from Lumi. It worked brilliantly and we'll use it at all MedComms Networking events now. A very light download encouraged a sizeable majority of the audience to try it and a ridiculously simple dashboard allowed us to poll the audience and to provide them with an opportunity to text comments and questions throughout. It has limitations, of course, compared with the bespoke Apps we've used at previous events, but frankly for what I need it works perfectly. If you want to try it yourselves there's a free 7 day trial or contact Sasha Connolly directly on email and be ready at future MedComms Networking events to be more fully engaged.

Another step I'm taking in light of the additional sponsorship support we're attracting, and which I've hesitated over for a long time now, is what I'm calling the BRUNCH CLUB! We'll host regular small morning meetings here in Oxford of about 20-24 delegates with 2-4 speakers presenting on various topics of direct relevance to MedComms. And the presentations will be filmed for webcasting for free access by the global community afterwards. Topics have yet to be decided but I believe we can guarantee a useful educational and networking session every time. So make a note of the dates now. It's the first Wednesday of every month (except when it isn't!) and the first date is 4 May. Most importantly for now, I'm keen to hear your ideas for topics and speakers, particularly if you're from further away and haven't been able to join us at our more traditional events. Let me know.

    Have a good week everyone.
